REHEARSAL AND TRAINING

DC I is structured to ground participants in a diverse repertory and wide stylistic range through direct immersion with established dance professionals. The company works with 2 different guest choreographers in a single season. During this time, guest choreographers and their company members will attend rehearsals, set the piece onto the ensemble and mentor participants. DC I requires a high level of dedication and commitment, with a rigorous and intense schedule that both challenges and inspires. DC rehearsals take place twice weekly (5 hours total each week) and are devoted to learning new choreography and rehearsing repertory. New dancers are responsible for learning 3-5 repertory works, including 2 new works per year. Past choreographers coach special sessions each semester to review and tweak repertory from earlier years. Returning dancers are also expected to retain repertory and to help teach it to newer members, encouraging peer-to-peer mentorship. DC averages 68 rehearsals per season –attendance at rehearsals is mandatory.

In addition to twice weekly rehearsals, DC I is required to attend a minimum of two technique classes per week including: Ballet IV and Choreolab, providing participants the opportunity to learn about building dance structures and the composition process, while experimenting with partnering and contact improvisation
.

Our programs follow the school year from September to June, divided into 2 semesters lasting 15-17 weeks each. All classes, performances and rehearsals take place outside regularly scheduled school hours. Performances occur throughout the year, including Dancewave’s signature performance series Kids Cafe Festival and our Spring Celebration. The 2012-13 Season has closed. Please check the School at Dancewave page (located on the navigation bar to the right) in late July 2013 to view class and rehearsal schedule for the 2013-14 Season.

RE/GROUP SESSIONS

Mentorship is a cornerstone of Dancewave’s company programs. One hour every month DC I members participate in our signature “Re/Group” sessions, a structured dialogue component led by a dedicated Re/Group counselor aimed at opening the parameters of self-expression, empathy, team spirit and harmony within the group. Re/group sessions occur once per month after regularly scheduled rehearsals. Participation at Re/Group sessions is mandatory for all company members.
