Pre-professional dance training

(Dancewave Company, Dancewave Company II, Dancewave Company III)

As a member of a Dancewave Company, dancers have the opportunity to pursue focused study in a variety of dance classes. Companies are structured in order to build upon each other with increasing expectations and benefits as dancers progress. Company members are required to participate in certain required classes and electives in addition to weekly company rehearsals.

(Young Movers Ensemble, Young Performers Ballet Ensemble, Amazing Creatures Ensemble)

Dancewave's Performance Ensembles are the stepping stones towards Dance Company membership. The Ensembles also offer an opportunity to delve into other dance disciplines and introduce dancers to the structure of the more rigorous schedule of Dance Company classes and rehearsals.

Company members benefit from special classes and rehearsals. Company ballet classes give each group the chance to strengthen and build on their ballet technique as a collective. In the Modern/Choreolab classes, company members develop a more sophisticated approach and depth to their modern technique, which supports the work of renowned guest choreographers. Choreolab classes guide students in learning composition and choreographing their own pieces, both individually and in groups.

Each year our pre-professional dance companies enjoy working with some of the best choreographers around. In the past we've worked with and staged the work of some of the biggest names in the business including: Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Bill T. Jones, Garth Fagan, Susan Marshall, Mark Morris, Donald Byrd, Trisha Brown, Doug Varone, Lar Lubovitch, Christal Brown, Donald McKayle, Meredith Monk, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Elisa Monte, Sara Pearson/Patrick Widrig, Carla Maxwell (Limon-based), David Dorfman, Ronald K. Brown, Sean Curran, Larry Keigwin, and Andrea Miller.

We believe every child who demonstrates a strong inclination to perform earns the opportunity to explore and develop their talent in our nurturing and challenging programs. Towards that end, Dancewave provides financial assistance to students committed to improving their lives through dance. Click here to learn more about our scholarship initiatives.
